Play Time!

One thing I love to do is experiment with new media and new techniques. It's exciting to tackle something unfamiliar and see where it takes you. Whether a jewelry-making technique, painting technique or some other art-related project, if I can get my hands dirty, I'm very happy.I've admired the work of polymer clay artists for a long time but have only recently attempted some of it myself. The medium itself offers endless possibilities since it can be molded and shaped into whatever form one desires. The end result can be a sleek, modern design with bright, happy colors or a piece with "earthy" colors that looks like it was dug up by archeologists from an ancient ruin. I tend to be drawn to the latter as I love the look of time-worn historical artifacts with all their nicks and smudges.I recently discovered a lovely little tutorial offered by Ginger Davis Allman of TheBlueBottleTree called Rustic Beads and Components. This tute walks you through the creation of beads, connectors and headpins that not only look great but are fun to make. In addition, the instructions are very well written with plenty of photos AND it is very inexpensive.
